Climate Change in New London, CT

We all hear about climate change on the news and think it’s a distant fear – unfortunately, this is wrong. Climate change is happening now, and it’s happening here in New London, CT.
Connecticut is warming. Water temperatures and the overall climate of the Long Island Sound have been recorded warmer and warmer with each year. According to NBC CT, “research is showing that water temperatures closest to the northeast coast are warming faster than 99 percent of global oceans.” This is no small deal.
Warming water and climate bring an increased risk of storms and flooding. NBC CT notes that by 2050, floods that happen “once in a lifetime” will be happening 4 times more frequently.
At SERVPRO of New London, we urge you to be conscious of your environmental footprint. While we may be here to clean up after storm disasters, we hate to see the damage occur. Take care of our New London community, there are a number of very simple things you can do to help reduce your footprint.
- Walk or bike rather than drive
- Take shorter showers
- Stop using single-use plastics (bags, straws, plastic-ware)
- Eat less meat
- Help out – pick up some litter
SERVPRO of New London will be there for you when a flood or storm hits, but let’s try and put an end to needless climate disasters – reduce your environmental footprint today!
