First. if you are in doubt, call an electrician.
1) Have an electrician check the breaker panel or fuse box and fix any damaged parts.
2) Have an electrician scrutinize the wiring.
Any old wiring should be replaced.
3) Be on the lookout for broken plugs or switches.
4) Don't overburden circuits.
Limit the number of gadget you use and plug them into the right outlet.
5) Don't “abuse” connections. To many overloaded plugs are dangerous.
6) Unplug gadgets when you're not using them.
7) Use superior electrical merchandise when changing out wires or other items.
8) Do not use gadgets that are damaged.
9) Make sure to put in smoke and carbon dioxide alarms where mandatory.
10) Don't plug a lot of gadgets into 1 extension cord. Only quality authorized extension cords that are made to handle the electrical loa should be used.
