Fire Safety on 4th of July
6/22/2017 (Permalink)
The best way to protect yourself and your families is to not light fireworks at home. The U.S. Fire Administration recommends attending public fireworks displays and leaving the lighting to the professionals.
A study by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) shows that over 200 people on average go the emergency room every day with fireworks-related injuries in the months surrounding the July 4th holiday. Fireworks are awesome and fun to watch, but sometimes can be dangerous! Please take a few moments to review the safety tips provided for you below:
- Observe local laws.
- Keep a bucket of water handy in case of a malfunction or fire.
- Read and follow all warnings and instructions.
- Never allow children to play with or ignite fireworks.
- Be sure other people are out of range before lighting fireworks. Never shoot a firework at or near another person.
- Only light fireworks on a smooth, flat surface away from the house, dry leaves, and flammable materials.
- Never try to relight fireworks that have not fully functioned. Douse and soak them with water and discard in a safe manner.
- Never ignite fireworks in a container, especially in a glass or metal container.
- Keep unused fireworks away from firing areas.
- Store fireworks in a dry, cool place. Review instructions for special storage directions.
